You Are My Density — A Painting, A Story, A Celebration
There are paintings that come from inspiration, and then there are paintings that come from love. “You Are My Density” is both.
This painting started as a co-creation. A joyful collaboration between imagination, oil paints, and a special family memory. It’s a seascape, yes, but it’s also a snapshot of a beautiful moment in time: a family playing in the ocean, laughter in the air, cold water crashing, and Jenny, soaking it all in.
From the beginning, the palette came alive with vibrant movement: cobalt blues, phthalo greens, and burnt sienna tones danced across the canvas like waves on the shore. I used my Bella Rotta technique to build up layers of color and texture, inviting each brushstroke to become part of the story.
The painting’s title, You Are My Density, is a nod to the family’s love for Back to the Future and it couldn’t be more perfect. Jenny, this piece is a tribute to the way you hold everyone together. Your presence, your joy, your legacy! It’s all there, woven into the sky, the sea, and the sand.

In the video, I take you behind the scenes: from mixing giant tubes of oil paint (yes, with a caulking gun!) to creating subtle shifts in color across the sky and building tiny distant cityscapes with intention and heart. There’s even a surprise appearance from the whole “gang” in the final painting.
It’s always a gift to create something meaningful, but this one was extra special. This was color, texture, and storytelling all rolled into one and I’m so excited to share it with you.
With gratitude and paint-stained fingers,
Rolinda
